Aomori Nebuta Matsuri (2–7 August) is one of Tohoku’s biggest summer festivals—giant illuminated floats, dancers, music, and a closing fireworks night.

What “Nebuta” means

Folklore links the name to sleepy spirits once driven away by farmers; today’s floats depict warriors, myths, and demons in vivid paint and lights.
